Rain

An informal survey of my memory indicates that it rained in Neuchâtel nearly every day this month.

The quilt is now basted after about ten hours of kneeling on the floor. I'm excited to start quilting!

Banking

Online banking here is a little more complicated than in the US. First you enter your contract number, which is not the same as your account number, on the bank Web site. Then you slide a card into the back of your bank calculator and enter a six-digit PIN. The bank Web site gives you a six-digit number to enter into your calculator, and the calculator gives you an eight-character code to type into the Web site.

Freddie's water

In Minnesota, our cat Fred drank water from the bathroom sink. Since moving to Switzerland, he drinks only
from water glasses. He has two: one in the living room, and one by his food bowl in the hallway.

Knight fountain

One of two fountains of knights built in 1550 in La Neuveville. I'm perplexed by the dog/lion
holding the musket under the knight, but haven't found any explanations of the iconography.

Bear

A building in La Neuveville with the bear of Bern above its entrance. La Neuveville is about 10 miles northeast
of Neuchâtel, just across the line separating the canton of Neuchâtel from the canton of Bern.

At DuPeyrou

It turns out, the sculpture in the fountain at the Hôtel DuPeyrou is an early Ramseyer from 1948-49.

A Ramseyer possibly from 1999 (it was difficult to read the inscription) in front of the WinCasa building in Monruz.

Here's an untitled Ramseyer from 1960 under an enormous cedar of Lebanon.

Ramseyer everywhere

I'm now seeing works by local sculptor André Ramseyer all around town. Standing in a sculpture garden
between the art museum and the docks are Aube (1977-81) by di Teana (previously featured in this post) in the foreground and Labyrinthe VI (1977) by Ramseyer (previously featured in this post) in the background.

Framed art (at last)

After torturing ourselves and Mindy over where to hang the art we have, we finally got a bit of it up on
a wall in the living room last weekend. From left to right, it includes a painting from Senegal, a photo of a cake
at our wedding, a screen print from Minnesota, a wall quilt I made, a Matisse print, and our three paintings of
Singapore shop houses, which Zak had framed in Seattle.

There was another event in the park yesterday. When I went to see what was happening, the boys were
on their last lap in a foot race.
