Part two: after their rescue, they become models for the painter.

Colmar train station art

The Colmar train station had two large windows covered with art by French artist, Jean Le Gac.

In this image, a painter bravely jumps from a train to rescue twins from danger.

Basel buffet

We took the train to Colmar, France, last Saturday, changing trains in Basel, where there is a noticeable difference between the French and Swiss train terminals. This former buffet is on the French platform.

Italy! Milano Centrale

We took three trains to get to our first destination: Neuchatel to Bern (about 30 minutes, CHF 9 per person), Bern to Milan (about 3.5 hours, CHF 38 pp), Milan to Reggio Emilia (about 2 hours, EUR 11.50 pp). Milan's central train station is large (24 platforms), bright, and a bit chaotic.

Alpine trains

On Thursday, we took the train to the Jungfraujoch, the highest train station in Europe at 3454 meters above sea level.

Alpine train tracks consist of two smooth rails and a center climbable rail. The track to the Jungfraujoch runs through 

a tunnel dug into the Eiger and Mönch mountains. Construction on the tunnel began in 1896 and was completed in 1912.

Subways

Though we mostly got around by walking, we did ride all three of Budapest's subway lines. This is a car

on the M2 line, with great 1950's styling.

Swiss army

We frequently see groups of young men in uniform at the train station, on their way 

to complete another period of military service.

Thun train station mural

I wish I knew what it says. The combination of old German script and Swiss German dialect renders 

the text essentially indecipherable to me.
